Notify MeViburnum plicatum Newport is a compact and beautifully structured deciduous shrub. It features distinctive horizontal branching covered in large, showy white flowers in late spring. Its deeply veined, serrated green foliage turns a striking burgundy in autumn before leaf fall, ensuring seasonal interest throughout the year. Similar in form to Viburnum plicatum Mariesii, this variety offers a graceful, layered appearance that adds texture and charm to the landscape.
Perfect as a specimen plant, in mixed borders, or as a hedge, it thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil. Its neat, compact habit makes it a great choice for smaller garden spaces, while its abundant floral display also makes it a favourite for cut flower arrangements. Reaches a mature height of approximately 100cm with a spread of 120cm, bringing elegance and structure to any garden setting.
Trimming: Prune lightly after flowering to maintain its graceful, layered structure. Remove any dead or crossing branches to improve airflow and shape. Avoid heavy pruning, as this may reduce next season’s blooms.
