Pieris japonica Temple Bells, commonly known as Lily of the Valley Bush, is an elegant evergreen shrub that produces extra-large, creamy white bell-shaped flowers on long racemes above the foliage in mid to late winter. The smooth, oval-shaped young leaves emerge in an apricot-orange hue, gradually turning deep glossy green as they mature. This plant adds a dynamic visual interest to any garden with its seasonal transformation. Ideal for borders, woodland gardens, and as a foundation planting, Temple Bells suits a range of garden styles including traditional, cottage, and woodland gardens. Its refined appearance and graceful form make it a versatile option for both formal and informal landscapes.

Preferring semi-shade, Pieris Temple Bells thrives in deep, fertile, acidic soil and should be planted in areas with no lime. It does best in moist, humus-rich soil but can tolerate short periods of drought once established. Avoid planting in waterlogged areas to prevent root rot. When planting, space it approximately 1.5 to 2 metres apart to allow for its mature size and ensure good air circulation. At maturity, this shrub reaches a height and width of 1.5 to 2 metres.
