Osmanthus fragrans

Osmanthus fragrans, also known as the Sweet Olive or False Holly, is an evergreen shrub that typically grows to a height of around 3-4 metres and has glossy, toothed, dark-green leaves that are about 5-12 centimetres long. The flowers are small and white, with a strong and sweet fragrance that is often described as apricot or peach-like. They appear in clusters from early autumn to early winter, attracting bees and butterflies. It is an easy-care plant and can be grown in various soils, but it prefers a well-drained, slightly acidic soil. It requires moderate watering and can tolerate some shade, although it prefers full sun.

It is a popular plant used in traditional Chinese medicine and cuisine. The dried flowers are added to tea, desserts, and even savoury dishes and are believed to have various health benefits, such as improving digestion, reducing inflammation, and promoting relaxation.
