Leucadendron Mrs Stanley

Leucadendron Mrs Stanley is a densely erect, evergreen shrub known for its striking display of pinkish-red bracts with white centres that deepen to a rich burgundy colour through winter. This hardy shrub grows to approximately 1.5 metres in height and width, making it an excellent choice for a sunny garden position with free-draining soil.

In summer, the plant produces soft pinkish-red bracts with cream centres, which gradually turn burgundy-red as the seasons progress. The stems and flowers are highly decorative and are often used for floral arrangements, providing visual interest from summer through to winter. The fine mid-green foliage with red tips adds to its ornamental appeal.

Leucadendron Mrs Stanley thrives in full sun and tolerates dry conditions once established. It is essential to plant it in very free-draining soil and avoid fertilisers that contain phosphate, as these can be harmful to the plant. To maintain its bushy habit, prune back the stems in late spring after the flowering season. This shrub is best suited to well-drained, poor, acid to neutral soils.

This Leucadendron makes an excellent and spectacular tub plant when grown in a low phosphate, well-drained compost. Its dense, bushy form and vibrant bracts make it ideal for adding colour and structure to garden beds, borders, and containers. The showy stems and flowers are perfect for floral work, adding a touch of elegance to arrangements.
