Camellia EG Waterhouse

Camellia x williamsii EG Waterhouse is a hybrid of the Camellia japonica and Camellia saluenensis with elegant, pale pink flowers and glossy evergreen foliage. This shrub produces medium, semi-double to peony-form flowers from mid to late season, creating a stunning contrast against its dark green leaves. The delicate pink flowers add a touch of refinement and beauty to any garden.

Ideal for borders, woodland gardens, and as a specimen plant, Camellia EG Waterhouse thrives in partial shade to full shade, making it perfect for brightening up shaded areas of the garden. It prefers well-drained, acidic soil with consistent moisture to support healthy growth and abundant flowering. This camellia is also well-suited for container gardening, providing flexibility in placement around the garden or on patios and terraces. Space plants approximately 1.5 to 2 metres apart to ensure adequate air circulation and room for growth.

When mature, Camellia EG Waterhouse reaches a height and spread of about 2 to 3 metres. Its upright, bushy growth habit and exquisite pale pink flowers add structure and seasonal interest to garden landscapes. This refined camellia cultivar enhances any garden with its graceful and captivating flowers, offering a lush and elegant display mid to late season.

Trimming: Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage bushy growth. Remove any dead or damaged branches to keep the plant healthy.

Deadheading: Remove spent flowers to promote new flowers and maintain a tidy appearance.

Fertilising: Apply a specialised camellia or acid-loving plant fertiliser in early spring and again in mid-summer. Avoid over-fertilising to prevent damage to the roots.

Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the establishment phase and dry periods. Camellias prefer well-drained, acidic soil. Mulch to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.

Pest Control: Watch for aphids, scale insects, and spider mites. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil.

Disease Management: Be vigilant for signs of root rot, petal blight, and leaf gall. Ensure good air circulation, avoid overhead watering, and apply appropriate fungicides if necessary. Remove and dispose of any infected plant material responsibly.
