Rose Chawton Cottage - Climbing

Rosa Chawton Cottage is a beautiful English-style shrub rose, producing abundant soft pink, cupped flowers with a delicate fragrance. Its repeat flowering habit ensures a continuous display from late spring through to autumn. The lush, mid-green foliage forms a dense, bushy plant that offers excellent disease resistance, making it a reliable choice for gardeners. Perfect for borders, mixed garden beds, or as a standalone feature, Rosa Chawton Cottage enhances cottage gardens, classic rose gardens, and informal landscapes. It also works well as a low hedge or in large containers. Plant in full sun with well-draining, fertile soil and space for good air circulation. Regular deadheading and seasonal pruning will promote strong growth and prolonged flowering. Mature size: Reaches approximately 1.2m in height and 1m in width.

Trimming: Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth appears. Remove dead, weak, or overcrowded stems to maintain an open shape. After the first flowering, lightly trim to encourage repeat blooms.

Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flowers to prolong the flowering season. Cut just above a strong leaf node to stimulate further growth.

Fertilising: Apply a rose-specific fertiliser in early spring, then again after the first flowering flush. A late summer feed helps sustain healthy growth and flowering into autumn.

Watering: Water deeply once or twice a week during dry periods, ensuring the soil remains moist but not waterlogged. Newly planted roses need consistent watering to establish strong roots.

Pest Control: Watch for common pests such as aphids and spider mites. Use insecticidal soap, neem oil, or encourage natural predators like ladybirds to manage infestations.

Disease Management: Susceptible to black spot and powdery mildew. Improve air circulation by spacing plants adequately and removing any fallen leaves. Treat with a fungicide if necessary and avoid overhead watering to reduce disease risk.
