Lavender Sensation Blue
Lavender Sensation Blue is a compact, fragrant variety featuring dense spikes of vivid blue-purple flowers set against silvery-green foliage. Flowering from late Spring through Summer, it provides a rich burst of colour and is highly attractive to bees and butterflies. Its tidy growth habit and vibrant flowering make it ideal for small spaces.
Perfect for borders, edging, rock gardens, and containers. Fits beautifully into Mediterranean, cottage, formal, and pollinator-friendly garden styles.
Thrives in full sun with well-drained soil. Drought-tolerant once established and prefers a low-humidity environment. Space plants about 30–40 cm apart for best shape and airflow.
Forms a compact mound approximately 30–40 cm tall and wide.
Trimming: Lightly trim after each flowering flush to maintain a compact shape and encourage repeat flowering. A more substantial prune can be done in late summer, avoiding cuts into old, woody stems.
Deadheading: Remove spent flower spikes regularly to extend the flowering season and keep the plant tidy.
Fertilising: Apply a low-nitrogen, slow-release fertiliser in early spring. Avoid high-nitrogen feeds, which can lead to lush foliage at the expense of flowers.
Watering: Water consistently during establishment, then only during extended dry periods. Once established, Sensation Blue is drought-tolerant and prefers well-drained, slightly dry conditions.
Pest Control: Usually pest-free, though young shoots may attract aphids. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or a firm water spray.
Disease Management: Ensure free-draining soil to prevent root rot. Avoid overhead watering and promote airflow around the plant to minimise fungal issues. Remove any discoloured or unhealthy foliage promptly.
