Lavender dentata Blue is a soft, aromatic shrub with finely toothed grey-green foliage and slender spikes of light violet-blue flowers. Flowering over an extended period from Spring into Autumn, this variety is known for its resilience, fragrance, and bushy, informal shape. Its evergreen foliage ensures year-round interest and texture in the garden.
Ideal for informal hedging, borders, or container planting. Complements Mediterranean, coastal, cottage, and low-maintenance garden styles.
Thrives in full sun with free-draining soil. Tolerates heat and dry conditions well once established but should be protected from heavy frosts. Space plants approximately 60 cm apart to allow room for natural shaping.
Reaches about 80–100 cm tall and wide, forming a loosely rounded, fragrant shrub.
Trimming: Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a neat, bushy shape. A harder prune can be done in late summer, but avoid cutting into old, woody stems as they may not reshoot.
Deadheading: Remove spent flower spikes regularly to extend the flowering period and improve appearance.
Fertilising: Feed in early spring with a low-nitrogen, slow-release fertiliser to support flowering without promoting excessive leaf growth.
Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase, then sparingly. Once established, this variety is drought-tolerant and prefers drier conditions. Avoid watering in cool, damp periods.
Pest Control: Generally pest-resistant. Monitor for occasional aphid infestations on new shoots and treat with insecticidal soap if required.
Disease Management: Ensure excellent drainage to prevent root rot. Good air circulation helps reduce the risk of fungal diseases. Avoid overhead watering and remove any affected foliage to keep the plant healthy.
