Gaura Sparkle White
Gaura lindheimeri Sparkle White is a graceful perennial that brings movement and texture to the garden. Its slender, arching stems are adorned with dainty white flowers that resemble fluttering butterflies, creating a dynamic display from late spring through autumn. The delicate flowers are complemented by narrow, lance-shaped green foliage, which forms a tidy mound at the base. Trimming: Cut back stems by about half in midsummer if the plant becomes leggy or untidy. In late autumn or early spring, trim the entire plant to ground level to encourage fresh growth.
Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flower spikes to prolong flowering and maintain a neat appearance.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring to support vigorous growth and abundant flowering. Avoid over-fertilising, as this can reduce its drought tolerance.
Watering: Water deeply during establishment and occasionally during prolonged dry spells. Gaura prefers well-drained soil and can tolerate drought once established.
Pest Control: Rarely affected by pests but keep an eye out for aphids or spider mites. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or a strong spray of water.
Disease Management: Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal issues like powdery mildew. Avoid waterlogging and water at the base to keep foliage dry.
