Argyranthemum Maize
Notify MeArgyranthemum Maize produces masses of soft yellow, daisy-like flowers held above neat mounds of finely divided green foliage. Flowering steadily from spring to late autumn, it adds a bright, cheerful touch to garden beds, borders, and pots. Well-suited to cottage, coastal, and Mediterranean-style gardens, it performs best in full sun with well-drained soil and moderate moisture. Plant with 30–40cm spacing to allow for airflow and shape. Regular deadheading will extend the flowering season.
Mature Size: Grows to around 40cm high and 50cm wide.
Trimming: Lightly trim after each flowering flush to maintain a compact shape and encourage fresh growth. More substantial pruning can be done in late winter or early spring to rejuvenate the plant.
Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flowers to prolong the flowering period and keep the plant looking tidy.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring, followed by liquid feeds every 4–6 weeks during the flowering season to support continuous blooms.
Watering: Water regularly during the establishment phase and in extended dry periods. Allow the top layer of soil to dry out between waterings to prevent root rot.
Pest Control: Watch for aphids and whiteflies, especially in warm weather. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil as needed.
Disease Management: Susceptible to powdery mildew and root rot in poorly drained soils. Ensure good air circulation and avoid overhead watering. Treat fungal issues with a suitable fungicide if symptoms appear.
