Flowering freely from spring through to autumn, this variety brings warmth and texture to dry, open spaces with minimal care required.
Ideal for borders, containers, and coastal or drought-tolerant gardens. Complements Mediterranean, modern, and cottage garden styles.
Prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Highly drought-tolerant once established and benefits from regular deadheading to extend the flowering season. Space plants 30–40 cm apart for even, colourful coverage.
Mature size: Grows to 25–30 cm tall with a spread of 40–50 cm, forming a neat, compact mound.
Trimming: Lightly trim after flowering to encourage a compact shape and promote continued blooming. Cut back any frost-damaged or leggy growth in early spring to refresh the plant for the growing season.
Deadheading: Remove spent flowers regularly to extend the flowering period and maintain a tidy appearance.
Fertilising: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring. Avoid excessive feeding, as this can encourage leafy growth at the expense of flowers.
Watering: Water consistently during the establishment phase. Once established, Arctotis ‘Silverdust Sunshine’ is drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional deep watering during extended dry spells. Ensure soil is well-drained to avoid root rot.
Pest Control: Generally pest-free. Aphids may occasionally appear on new shoots—treat with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil if needed.
Disease Management: Fungal diseases may occur in damp or poorly drained conditions. Avoid overwatering, provide good airflow, and remove any affected leaves to reduce the risk of disease.
