Doodia australis

Doodia australis syn. Blechnum parrisiae, commonly known as the Rasp Fern, is a small fern native to Australia and New Zealand. This perennial plant is recognised for its unique textured fronds that feel rough to the touch, much like a raspberry, hence the name Rasp Fern. The fronds emerge as an attractive pink-red colour before gradually maturing to a lush green. This fern thrives in shaded to partially shaded locations and prefers moist, well-drained soil. The Rasp Fern is relatively compact, typically reaching a height of 30-45 cm and a spread of around 30 cm upon maturity. Its adaptability to a wide range of conditions, combined with its unique texture and attractive colour change, makes it an interesting and versatile addition to both indoor and outdoor gardens.
