Brachyglottis greyi is an attractive, compact evergreen shrub that stands out with its striking silver-grey foliage. The leathery, oblong leaves are a soft, silvery shade on the upper side and covered with a dense white felt underneath, creating a beautiful contrast. During the summer months, this hardy shrub produces clusters of bright yellow daisy-like flowers that add a burst of colour against the silver backdrop.

This plant is ideal for coastal gardens, rock gardens, and low-maintenance borders due to its tolerance of salt-laden winds and drought. Its silvery foliage complements a variety of garden styles, especially Mediterranean, coastal, or contemporary gardens where the colour palette leans towards cool tones. Brachyglottis greyi also works well in containers or as ground cover in larger landscape designs.

Preferring full sun, this shrub thrives in well-drained soils, tolerating poor soil conditions. It is drought-resistant once established, making it a perfect choice for low-water gardens. Space plants about 1 metre apart to allow for their naturally spreading habit and ensure good air circulation.

At maturity, Brachyglottis greyi forms a rounded shape, growing up to 1 metre in height and spreading to around 1.5 metres. Its tidy, mounded form and shimmering foliage create a stunning year-round feature in any garden setting.

Trimming: Prune Brachyglottis greyi in early spring to maintain its neat, rounded shape. Lightly trim back any straggly growth after flowering to encourage dense foliage.

Deadheading: Regular deadheading is not required, but you can remove spent flower heads to keep the plant tidy.

Fertilising: This plant generally thrives in poor to moderately fertile soils, so fertilising is not necessary. If desired, a light application of balanced fertiliser in spring can enhance growth.

Watering: Once established, Brachyglottis greyi is drought-tolerant. Water deeply during prolonged dry spells or if grown in containers.

Pest Control: Typically pest-resistant, but keep an eye out for aphids or caterpillars. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil if needed.

Disease Management: Brachyglottis greyi is generally disease-free, but ensure good air circulation to avoid any potential fungal issues. Avoid waterlogging to prevent root rot.
