Anemanthele lessoniana, commonly known as Wind Grass, is a stunning ornamental grass native to New Zealand. This perennial grass is a garden showstopper, known for its arching, copper-tinged foliage and feathery flowerheads. Whether you plant it in full sun or semi-shade, it's a hardy and low-maintenance choice that brings movement and texture to any landscape. Its leaves, which start off green, mature into warm hues of bronze and copper, swaying gracefully in the wind. During the summer, it produces airy, feathery flowers that rise above the foliage, adding an extra layer of visual interest.

Anemanthele lessoniana is incredibly versatile, thriving in a range of conditions from coastal areas to exposed sites. It's also drought-tolerant once established, making it a great option for water-wise gardens. This grass typically grows in clumps up to 100cm in height and is often used as an accent plant in borders, or for mass plantings. It can even be used in dried flower arrangements.

Trimming: In late winter or early spring, trim back any dead or damaged leaves to tidy up the plant. Avoid cutting into the green growth, as this grass prefers a natural, flowing shape.

Deadheading: Deadheading is not necessary, but you can remove old flower spikes if they start looking untidy. The seed heads can also be left for added ornamental value.

Fertilising: This grass thrives in poor to moderately fertile soils, so fertilising is rarely needed. If growth appears weak, apply a light, balanced fertiliser in spring.

Watering: Water during the establishment phase and in prolonged dry periods. Once established, Anemanthele lessoniana is fairly drought-tolerant and needs minimal watering.

Pest Control: This plant is generally pest-free and does not require any specific pest control measures.

Disease Management: Anemanthele lessoniana is resistant to most diseases but can develop root rot in poorly drained soils. Ensure good drainage and avoid overwatering to keep the plant healthy.
