Picea sitchensis - Field-Grown

Picea Sitchensis, commonly known as the Sitka Spruce, is a colossal evergreen conifer known for its sharp, dark-green needles and pendulous, light brown cones. Its grand, pyramidal shape provides architectural appeal too.

It thrives in a variety of well-drained soil types. It prefers full sun exposure, but can also manage in partial shade. This hardy tree is well suited to coastal regions, capable of withstanding windy conditions and salt spray. It also has good resistance to pests and diseases.

Its monumental size and dense foliage make it a splendid specimen tree and an excellent choice for windbreaks or privacy screens.

Picea sitchensis is one of the largest spruce species, reaching an impressive height of 50-70 metres at maturity. However, its growth rate is moderate, which allows for management of its height and form, depending on the requirements of your garden.

Field-grown plants are grown directly in open fields, enabling their roots to spread and develop naturally, resulting in larger size, established root systems, and increased resilience. When transporting these plants, hessian, a coarse fabric made from natural fibres like jute, is commonly used to wrap their roots, providing protection during transportation and handling.
