Cornus florida f. rubra, commonly known as the Pink Flowering Dogwood, is a renowned variant of the Cornus florida species, celebrated for its showy pink blossoms. This deciduous tree greets the spring with a splendid display of flowers, which emerge before the foliage and create a delightful contrast against the bare branches. The rest of the year, the tree is covered with dark green leaves that turn a striking reddish-purple in autumn, adding another layer of visual interest. The Pink Flowering Dogwood thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers well-drained, acidic soil. It is a medium-sized tree, typically reaching a height of about 6-9 metres and a similar spread at maturity.
Field-grown plants are grown directly in open fields, enabling their roots to spread and develop naturally, resulting in larger size, established root systems, and increased resilience. When transporting these plants, hessian, a coarse fabric made from natural fibres like jute, is commonly used to wrap their roots, providing protection during transportation and handling.
