Campanula Canterbury Bells

Campanula medium Canterbury Bells, commonly known as the 'cup and saucer' due to its distinctive bell-shaped flowers framed by a saucer-like petal, brings a touch of old-fashioned charm to any garden. Available in a delightful array of colours including violet, pink, white, and blue, these large cup-shaped flowers create a profusion of colour throughout the summer. A perennial favourite for cottage gardens, it thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist soil to flourish. With a growth size of approximately 60cm in height and width, regular deadheading will encourage a longer flowering period, enhancing your garden's visual appeal.

As a biennial with upright growth, it forms a basal rosette of lance-shaped leaves up to 15cm long in its first year, followed by a leafy stem adorned with broadly bell-shaped, single or double flowers in various hues during the summer of its second year. It adapts well to a range of soil types including chalk, clay, loam, and sand, provided the soil is moist but well-drained. This plant is versatile in pH tolerance, thriving in acid, alkaline, and neutral conditions. Ideal for gardeners looking to add a splash of colour and vintage charm, it performs best under full sun or partial shade.
