Liriodendron tulipifera, commonly known as the Tulip Tree or Tulip Poplar, is a majestic fast-growing, tall pyramidal tree admired for its distinctive tulip-shaped flowers and striking foliage. In spring, it produces large, saddle-shaped bright green leaves that are deciduous after turning yellow in autumn. Stunning tulip-like, yellow-green flowers with orange centers follow late spring to early summer.
It makes a superb choice for use as a focal point or shade tree in large landscapes. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil, although it can adapt to a variety of soil types. This tree is perfect for formal, traditional, and woodland garden styles due to its stately appearance and impressive size.
When planting the Tulip Tree, space the trees about 8-10 meters apart to accommodate their mature size and spread. Regular watering is essential during the establishment period, but once mature, this tree is relatively low-maintenance and moderately drought-tolerant. It is also known for its rapid growth, providing quick results in the landscape.
Mature Size: 20-30 meters tall and 6-10 meters wide.
What is a bare-rooted tree?
Bare-rooted trees are deciduous trees that have been grown in the ground and are dug up when they've become dormant in the winter. The soil is shaken from their roots and they are bundled up with their roots packed in moist material to prevent dehydration during transport.
