Acer Beni Komachi - Bare-Rooted

Acer palmatum Beni Komachi, is a captivating deciduous tree noted for its vibrant, deeply lobed leaves and graceful form. Its name, which means "red beautiful girl" in Japanese, perfectly captures the allure of its foliage. In spring, the leaves emerge bright red, transitioning to a rich burgundy during summer, and finally turning a brilliant scarlet in autumn, providing a stunning display of color throughout the year.

This Japanese Maple is ideal for adding striking color and texture to various garden settings. It works beautifully as a focal point in small gardens, mixed borders, or as part of a larger landscape design. It's particularly well-suited to Japanese-style gardens and can also thrive in containers, making it a versatile choice for patios or balconies.

Thriving in partial shade to full sun, Beni Komachi benefits from afternoon shade in hotter climates to protect its delicate leaves from scorching. It prefers well-draining, acidic to neutral soil enriched with organic matter. Regular watering is essential, especially during dry periods, to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Minimal pruning is required, mainly to maintain its shape and remove any dead or damaged branches, best done in late winter to early spring before new growth begins.

Reaching a mature height and spread of approximately 2-3 meters.

What is a bare-rooted tree?

Bare-rooted trees are deciduous trees that have been grown in the ground and are dug up when they've become dormant in the winter. The soil is shaken from their roots and they are bundled up with their roots packed in moist material to prevent dehydration during transport.

What are the benefits?

  • Less packaging and plastic waste involved in growing process and transportation.
  • Plant has more root mass as the roots have not been constricted and twisted by a pot.
  • They are easier to carry and plant as they are extremely lightweight.
  • Bare-rooted trees are cheaper as they do not come with soil and pots.
  • Planting bare-rooted trees in the winter follows the natural pattern of the seasons.
