Acer palmatum Beni Hime which translates to "red dwarf" in Japanese, is a stunning Japanese maple tree known for its delicate pink foliage in spring that gradually changes to green while maintaining a red edge through the summer. In autumn, the foliage transitions to a vivid crimson, providing a stunning display.
It prefers partial shade and well-drained, moist soil. It is also a popular choice for bonsai and container gardening. Prune in late winter to control its shape and size. It is frost-hardy and able to withstand cold temperatures. It may need protection from strong winds and hot sun, especially during the first few years after planting.
Grows to a maximum height of 2.5m and a width of 3m but will be much smaller if grown in a container.
What is a bare-rooted tree?
Bare-rooted trees are deciduous trees that have been grown in the ground and are dug up when they've become dormant in the winter. The soil is shaken from their roots and they are bundled up with their roots packed in moist material to prevent dehydration during transport.
