Plum Sultan - Bare-Rooted

Plum Sultan is a delightful addition to any garden, celebrated for its large, round, dark red fruits with vibrant yellow flesh. These plums are incredibly sweet and juicy, making them perfect for eating fresh, as well as for baking and preserves. The tree is not only productive but also ornamental, featuring lush green foliage and striking white blossoms in the spring.

This variety thrives in full sun and prefers a sheltered position to protect it from strong winds. It is self-fertile, which means it does not require another variety for pollination, although having another plum nearby can increase fruit yield. Suitable for a variety of garden styles, including formal and informal settings, the Sultan fits well in medium to large gardens but can also adapt to smaller spaces if pruned accordingly.

Typically, this plum tree grows to a height and spread of about 3-4m, offering a compact yet generous yield. Usually ready in February.

What is a bare-rooted tree?

Bare-rooted trees are deciduous trees that have been grown in the ground and are dug up when they've become dormant in the winter. The soil is shaken from their roots and they are bundled up with their roots packed in moist material to prevent dehydration during transport.

What are the benefits?

  • Less packaging and plastic waste involved in growing process and transportation.
  • Plant has more root mass as the roots have not been constricted and twisted by a pot.
  • They are easier to carry and plant as they are extremely lightweight.
  • Bare-rooted trees are cheaper as they do not come with soil and pots.
  • Planting bare-rooted trees in the winter follows the natural pattern of the seasons.
