Magnolia Waterlily - Bare-Rooted

Magnolia stellata Waterlily, a variety of Star Magnolia, is a delightful deciduous shrub known for its stunning floral display. Large, white, star-shaped flowers resembling the shape of a waterlily bloom profusely in early spring. The petals are thick and textured, adding a captivating effect as they open fully before the foliage emerges, blanketing the branches in pure white. This variety is perfect for creating a dramatic early spring display.

In the garden, Waterlily excels in small spaces and is ideal for mixed borders or as a standalone specimen. Its compact size and spectacular flowering make it a fantastic choice for urban gardens or as a central feature in residential landscapes. This magnolia prefers full sun to partial shade and thrives in well-drained, slightly acidic soil. For optimal flowering, it should be protected from strong winds and planted in a location that avoids late frosts. Typically, Waterlily grows to a height of about 1.5-2.5 metres with a similar spread, making it a versatile addition to both small and large garden designs.

What is a bare-rooted tree?

Bare-rooted trees are deciduous trees that have been grown in the ground and are dug up when they've become dormant in the winter. The soil is shaken from their roots and they are bundled up with their roots packed in moist material to prevent dehydration during transport.

What are the benefits?

  • Less packaging and plastic waste involved in growing process and transportation.
  • Plant has more root mass as the roots have not been constricted and twisted by a pot.
  • They are easier to carry and plant as they are extremely lightweight.
  • Bare-rooted trees are cheaper as they do not come with soil and pots.
  • Planting bare-rooted trees in the winter follows the natural pattern of the seasons.
