Magnolia acuminata Lois - Bare-Rooted

Magnolia acuminata Lois is a remarkable deciduous tree known for its stunning display of tulip-shaped yellow flowers that emerge just before the leaves, creating a spectacular display over four to five weeks in mid to late spring. The flowers are lightly scented, adding a subtle lemon fragrance to the garden. Throughout the year, the lush green foliage of Lois provides a verdant backdrop in summer and autumn, transitioning to a lovely yellow hue in autumn before losing its leaves for winter. This magnolia, with its rounded, conical shape, is considered one of the best yellow magnolias available.

In the garden, it serves as an excellent specimen tree, providing a focal point with its eye-catching yellow flowers. It complements various garden styles, including contemporary, cottage, and woodland gardens. The cheerful yellow flowers brighten the landscape, making it an ideal choice for adding a splash of colour. This magnolia thrives in full sun to partial shade, preferring moist, well-drained soil. It is important to plant it in a sheltered location to protect the flowers from strong winds.

Reaches approximately a height of 6m with a spread of 4m, forming a well-rounded and elegant silhouette.

What is a bare-rooted tree?

Bare-rooted trees are deciduous trees that have been grown in the ground and are dug up when they've become dormant in the winter. The soil is shaken from their roots and they are bundled up with their roots packed in moist material to prevent dehydration during transport.

What are the benefits?

  • Less packaging and plastic waste involved in growing process and transportation.
  • Plant has more root mass as the roots have not been constricted and twisted by a pot.
  • They are easier to carry and plant as they are extremely lightweight.
  • Bare-rooted trees are cheaper as they do not come with soil and pots.
  • Planting bare-rooted trees in the winter follows the natural pattern of the seasons.
