Acer palmatum Red Emperor is a stunning deciduous Japanese maple known for its vibrant, deeply lobed foliage. The leaves emerge bright crimson in Spring, darken to rich burgundy through Summer, and transition to fiery scarlet tones in Autumn. Unlike some red maples, its foliage resists sun scorching, making it a reliable choice for striking year-round colour.
Perfect as a feature tree in Japanese gardens, mixed borders, or courtyard plantings. Thrives in partial shade to full sun, provided it is sheltered from strong winds. Prefers well-drained, fertile soil that is consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow 3–4 metres of spacing for its elegant growth habit.
Reaches a mature height of 4–5 metres with a similar spread, forming an upright, rounded silhouette.
What is a bare-rooted tree?
Bare-rooted trees are deciduous trees that have been grown in the ground and are dug up when they've become dormant in the winter. The soil is shaken from their roots and they are bundled up with their roots packed in moist material to prevent dehydration during transport.
