Acer palmatum Aratama is a rare and desirable dwarf variety of Japanese Maple prized for its slow growth and elegant, thin branches. This deciduous plant features five-lobed leaves that begin as brick red in spring, turn purple, red, and green in summer, and finally transition to gold and orange in late autumn.
In the garden, Acer Aratama is perfect for adding a touch of refined beauty and is often used as a focal point or accent plant. It is ideal for Japanese-style gardens, woodland settings, and can even make a striking addition to container gardens. Plant in a sheltered spot to protect its delicate foliage from strong winds. Acer Aratama thrives in partial shade but can tolerate full sun, provided the soil is kept moist and well-drained. It prefers rich, slightly acidic soil.
Space Acer Aratama approximately 2 to 3 metres apart to allow for its mature spread. It reaches a mature height of about 1.5 to 2 metres, making it an excellent choice for smaller gardens or as part of a mixed border.
What is a bare-rooted tree?
Bare-rooted trees are deciduous trees that have been grown in the ground and are dug up when they've become dormant in the winter. The soil is shaken from their roots and they are bundled up with their roots packed in moist material to prevent dehydration during transport.
