Pyrus salicifolia pendula - Silver Weeping Pear
Pyrus salicifolia Pendula

Pyrus salicifolia Pendula, commonly known as the Weeping Pear or Willow-leaved Pear, is a captivating deciduous tree with unique foliage and growth habit. In spring, its willow-like leaves emerge silver-white, transitioning to a grey-green hue during the summer months. The tree's structure forms beautiful tiers of branches that lend themselves well to trimming, creating a picturesque silhouette.

In addition to its striking foliage, Pyrus salicifolia Pendula is adorned with small, white blossoms in spring, enhancing its appeal with a touch of creamy white against the silvery backdrop of its leaves. This tree is not only a visual delight but also robust, capable of withstanding strong winds and drought conditions. Expected to reach a height of 4m and a width of 3m within ten years, it grows at a medium rate, achieving about 2m in height after five years. The Weeping Silver Pear is particularly stunning when placed against a dark background or when creating a serene and soft ambience in combination with white flowers. Its long, narrow, silver-grey leaves, covered in silky down, and the graceful, arching effect of its branches, along with the white spring blossoms followed by small, inedible fruits, make Pyrus salicifolia Pendula a standout addition, attracting bees and adding biodiversity to the garden.

Buxus Sempervirens
Buxus sempervirens

Buxus sempervirens, commonly known as common box, is a classic evergreen shrub known for its dense, small-leaved foliage and versatile, slow-growing habit. Its dark evergreen leaves provide a lush, continuous backdrop in gardens throughout the year.

Buxus sempervirens is ideal for formal hedges, edging, parterres, and topiary. Its dense growth habit and ability to tolerate heavy pruning make it a favorite for creating structured garden elements, such as balls, cones, or more intricate shapes. It suits a variety of garden styles, from formal to cottage, and can be used in small and large landscapes alike to add evergreen structure and define garden spaces.

Common box prefers full sun to partial shade and thrives in well-drained, slightly alkaline to neutral soil. It is adaptable to a range of conditions, though it requires protection from strong winds and excessive winter wetness. For hedge planting, a spacing of about 20-30 cm is recommended to achieve a dense, seamless barrier.

Can be kept as low as 30cm in height, but will grow to 1m tall if kept untrimmed.
