A Low Window in a Sheltered Spot

A Low Window in a Sheltered Spot

Perfect for a sheltered area that has a low window that you are wanting to plant in front of, or  along a path that you are wanting to tree line with a ground cover.

A large window that goes all the way to the ground can be very tricky to garden against. If you do nothing it looks unfinished and if you get the wrong plants it is going to look very messy from the inside looking out.

So let's create a beautiful outlook with a Japanese maple and use a ground cover for the garden area that the tree rises out of. Nothing grows up against the window which is the result we want. The Maple Tree is something magnificent to look  at any time of the year, with its fresh green foliage in the Summer and its beautiful colour changes as the seasons move through to Winter.

Acer palmatum Osakazuki is a Japanese Maple with spectacular autumn colour, often regarded as one of the best for vibrant displays. It starts the season with large, green leaves that are notably thicker than those of other maples. Come autumn, these leaves transform into a brilliant, almost luminous scarlet, creating a breathtaking display in any garden setting.

Suited to a range of garden styles, from formal to woodland gardens, Osakazuki thrives in partial shade but can tolerate full sun if provided with sufficient moisture. It prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil and benefits from sheltered positioning to protect its delicate foliage from harsh winds.

Acer palmatum Osakazuki reaches a mature height of about 6 metres with a spread of around 5 metres. Its robust size and extraordinary autumn colour make it an excellent choice for gardeners looking to make a significant impact with their landscape, particularly in the autumn months.

Pachysandra terminalis Green Sheen or commonly known as Japanese Spurge, is an excellent evergreen ground cover plant that features glossy, dark green leaves with a unique sheen that reflects the sunlight beautifully. Growing up to 20-30cm high and spreading to fill in space over time, it's perfect for filling in shaded areas under trees or shrubs, or on slopes where it can help prevent soil erosion.

Thriving in partial to full shade, this low-maintenance plant is highly valued for its year-round interest and robust growth in challenging garden areas. In spring, it produces small, fragrant white flowers that add a touch of delicacy against the backdrop of its glossy leaves. Tolerant of dry shade once established, it appreciates well-drained, humus-rich soil and regular watering in dry periods to maintain its vigour and lustre. Green Sheen is a great choice for low-maintenance gardens, providing an attractive, reliable cover that's both functional and visually appealing.
